Like most start-up companies, Jost underwent difficult times during the first few years. The company’s ability to overcome initial obstacles and to achieve its current success can be attributed, in part, to Jerry’s early decision to employ experienced chemical industry experts. Their knowledge and experience has continued to be invaluable to the growth of the company. Another factor contributing to Jost’s success is that Jerry never waivered from his commitment to excellence - producing high purity specialty chemicals that meet customer requirements.

In the fall of 1985, production began at the company's first manufacturing plant located on “The Hill” area of St. Louis. The company initially manufactured high purity magnesium phosphate for the bulk reagent market. These efforts rapidly expanded into the manufacture of calcium citrate, magnesium citrate and zinc citrate for the nutritional market, inorganic salts for the pharmaceutical market and the precision industrial market.

By 1994, Jost outgrew the original facility and built a new 40,000 ft² plant in St. Louis County near Lambert International Airport. In 1997, the new plant was expanded by an additional 50,000 ft². And in 2004, a new 100,000 ft² manufacturing plant was completed on the adjoining five acres. To support continued sales growth in Europe, Jost established a Sales and Marketing office in Belgium in 2001. Today, Jost Chemical Co. has over 190,000 ft² of manufacturing space, as well a sales office in Belgium and warehousing space in Belgium, California and New Jersey.

The company has grown to over 120 employees with over 25% having technical degrees. Reporting to Jerry Jost, President, is the Director of Sales and Marketing, the Director of R&D, Plant Manager, Controller, MIS and HR. This organization facilitates a very collaborative approach to responding to customer requests in a timely manner and the development of products that meet our customer’s requirements.

Today, Jost manufactures and ships 160+ distinct high purity, specialty bulk chemical products all over the world. This includes Jost’s family of ultra-pure calcium salts with very low levels of aluminum. In addition to manufacturing high purity chemical salts that meet compendial monographs, Jost’s products meet customized particle size requirements from free flowing granular to ultrafine powders. Jost routinely ships order quantities ranging from one drum to a truckload.
