Chemical Production Operators

Background

  • Works under direct to general supervision of the Production Manager in a GMP regulated manufacturing environment operating under Q7A standards.
  • Performs routine to complex line operations of dry and liquid chemicals to produce high purity specialty minerals. The work process involves steps that are repetitive to unique in character, requiring careful adherence to well-established instructions usually provided in operations manuals, as well as independent discretion and judgment on higher level lines.

Tasks

  • Production Process Activities
    • Adjusts controls to regulate temperature, pressure, feed, and flow of dry and liquid chemicals, and times of prescribed reactions, according to knowledge of equipment and processes.
    • Monitors gauges, recording instruments, or products to ensure that specified conditions are maintained.
    • Inspects equipment or units to detect leaks and malfunctions, shutting equipment down if necessary.
    • Cleans, assembles, and makes minor repairs to machinery and equipment using hand tools.
  • Quality Control Activities
    • Draws samples of products at specified stages for analyses by others.
    • Determines particle size, percent solids, or percent moisture as required by product specifications.
  • Unloading and Loading Activities
    • Retrieves, measures, and adds raw materials to reaction tanks according to product specifications.
    • Manages in-process hopper transfers.
    • Operates hand truck or fork lift.
  • Safety, Health and Environmental Activities
    • Observes safety precautions to prevent accidents, fires and explosions.
    • Participates in safety training and programming.
  • Record Keeping Duties
    • Records operational data such as temperatures, pressures, ingredients used, processing times, or test results.
    • Records amounts and lot numbers of raw materials on process manufacturing data records.

Specifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Six (6) months or more of chemical mixing and blending production experience
  • Knowledge of:
    • Basic levels mathematics and English comprehension
    • Basic level of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
    • Basic level of safety, health and environmental rules and regulations, policies and procedures
  • Skill in:
    • Troubleshooting and product inspection
    • Operation control and monitoring
    • Equipment maintenance and light repair
    • Management of material resources
  • Ability to:
    • Work in extreme cold and hot (120 F) environment
    • Comprehend oral and written English instruction
    • Lift 55 pounds and drive fork truck in safe and efficient manner
    • Follow established policies and procedures
    • Operate and maintain chemical processing equipment
    • Exhibit manual dexterity, perceptual speed and extent flexibility
    • Adopt to rapidly changing priorities based on business needs
    • Pass pre-employment physical with drug screen and physical capabilities test
